Clay Poker Chip Selection Tips

November 15th, 2008 Matthew Sagehouse No comments

by Matthew Sagehouse

Clay poker chips come in a variety of designs, grades, compositions, and styles. If you are in the market for clay chips, there is no shortage of choices. Making the best decision for your game can be fun.

One simple key to making a good purchasing decision about clay poker chips is having the time to do research. Many people have already bought and tested most of the chips you will be considering, so search the web to find reviews and customer feedback. Additionally, you can order samples of chips that interest you.

When ordering samples of clay poker chips, be sure to get a wide variety. They can range in price from $.12 per chip to $1.35 per chip. Even if the high end clay chips are not in your budget, buy a few samples for comparison. Also, pay attention to design since you will have to live with the choice for a while.

The composition of clay poker chips varies as much as the designs and prices. While some are called clay composite and others are referred to as real clay, none are truly made of just clay. If this was the only component, the chips would break too easily. However the true casino sound and feel is found in the chips known to be composed mostly of clay and these are often the most expensive.

Clay composite poker chips are often a step or two down the scale in from clay poker chips in terms of price. This could be interpreted as lesser quality, but it is a matter of taste. If durability is important to you, then the clay composite chips that include a metal insert may interest you. These more economical chips offer more unique designs and often the ability for customization.

One upside to having a metal insert in a clay composite chip is this can allow the poker chip to accept gold foil hot stamping. With this hot stamping process, you can add up to three initials or denominations chosen from a pretty comprehensive list.

After all of the research (however long or short it may be), if you determine that full clay chips are the choice for you, please be sure to get samples of all the varieties. When the bulk purchase is made, it will be expensive and you will have to keep the chips a long time. It is best to be certain of what you are buying.

During the process the objective is to become educated about clay poker chips and a minor expert of sorts. However, no matter what reviews, friends, and experts say about a particular style or brand of chips, remember to listen to yourself and your tastes. You will be the one laying out the cash. Make it count for you.

Texas Holdem Skills and Tips

November 14th, 2008 Thirty Something No comments

by Thirty Something

The rules of Texas Hold’em poker begin the round with every player getting two cards down. The player in the small blind gets the first card. And then the player with the button, which is the dealer, gets the last card.

A standard poker deck is used. The cards that all players get are what are called hole cards. These are the only cards that the player will not use as community cards.

These cards will not be revealed until the show down. The first agenda is the pre flop betting round. Beginning with the player to the immediate left of the dealer and rotates in a clockwise position.

Play progresses until one of three things happen. The result could be that all players have folded, surrendered all their chips or a player goes all in. When there are two players remaining after the pre-flop round, the dealer deals three community cards face up.

Ideally you would like to see two players remain after the pre-flop bet. The dealer then deals three community cards up. Then there will be another round of betting.

After the flop ends, one community card is played. The pros call this the turn card. Some do call it the fourth street card as well.

Then there is another betting round. An additional community card is laid. This is called either the river card or the fifth street card.

Then there is another round of betting, and if necessary, the showdown. It is common, if you play this game in a casino, for the dealer to burn a card before the flop, turn, and river. This is to ensure that players who might bet can’t see the back of the next card.

This is when each player makes the best of their seven cards. Every player uses the best hand they can make from five of the seven cards. Sometimes a player opts to not use his hole cards.

When he does this then he chooses to play the board. Players that play the board will likely spilt the pot. Pots are always split equally.

If the best hand is shared by more than one player, then the pot is split equally among them, with any extra chips going to the first players after the button in clockwise order.
