Living the High Life in Las Vegas

August 24th, 2009 Kyle Chapman No comments

Want to take a memorable trip to Las Vegas? Good choice. But the real question is what are the nicest places in Las Vegas? We want this to be memorable right? So let’s take a look at the fanciest resorts with the best service there is to offer in Las Vegas.

So, you say that you want to stay in the nicest hotel in Las Vegas. Well there are a couple of options for you, as there isn’t “one best option”. A good place to start would be the AAA Five Diamond Award winning resorts. On Las Vegas Boulevard (or the strip) there is the Bellagio, Venetian, MGM Skylofts, the Four Seasons, and of course the Wynn.

By now I would assume that you really aren’t too interested in a place that has penny slots or $5 blackjack. That’s good, because all of these places can accommodate high limit gambling if you choose to partake. All except the Four Seasons, as that hotel does not offer gambling. Most of the high rollers have been enjoying the action at the Wynn, Bellagio, and Venetian as of late.

The Bellagio is the hotel that is most remembered for the fountain show outside. This place really is classy, and very elaborate. There are plenty of fine dining options as well as other great amenities here. While visiting, you really need to check out the Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens is an elaborate garden display that changes seasonally. It is really a unique sight.

If you’re looking for a little Italian flair, you’ll find it at the Venetian. As an Italian themed hotel, you’ll find gondolas with actual singing gondoliers that guests can ride. The Venetian puts an emphasis on Italian themed art and decor, as the ceilings are painted like the Sistine Chapel. The wall decorations and tile work really make the place one of the most visually appealing places Las Vegas has to offer.

The MGM Skylofts are located at the top of the MGM Grand. The MGM Skylofts are wonderful rooms with lots of luxuries and amenities that don’t come with a normal room at the MGM Grand. The MGM Grand itself is a nice place with a wide variety of gaming, dining, and entertainment options. It isn’t as flashy as say the Wynn or Bellagio, but it is still a great place.

One of the most famous casino resort/real-estate developers in the world is Steve Wynn. His previous projects include the Mirage, Treasure Island, and the Bellagio before they were sold. Since then, he has outdone himself yet again with the Wynn and most recently its sister hotel Encore.

His current creation the Wynn, has everything to offer guests. Starting with an absolutely amazing visual display around every corner, the Wynn has everything from fine dining, the Esplanade Shoppes which feature some of the most recognizable brands in retail, to a golf course, and even a Ferrari and Maserati dealership! Emphasis is put on luxury and fine service. If you feel like splurging, and taking in everything Las Vegas has to offer, definitely check out the Wynn.

All of these places are wonderful and absolutely stunning. Keep in mind if you’re looking for dollar drafts or five dollar blackjack, it will be difficult to find in these properties. Be prepared to splurge a little, but if you really want to experience Las Vegas luxury, these places are second to none.

Cruise Vacations and What You Need To Know

There are many people that want to take a great vacation, something that they will remember for the rest of their lives, something great. If you want a vacation like this then you may want to consider taking a cruise on board of a cruise ship.

I am not going to be promoting specific cruise lines in this article; I will just be going over some of the things that you can expect when you are on board a cruise ship that holds 1,000 people or more.

Many cruises will stop at ports, so make sure that you have a passport handy so that you will be able to go offshore. Along with the port stops, many offer guided exertions, so if there is a particular place that you always wanted to visit, then you may be able to arrive there in a cruise ship.

If you like to tan or like to swim, you can enjoy sparkling swimming pools that are usually located on the sun deck. For those that want to relieve muscle tension there are massages available, along with hot tubs and saunas on most cruises.

Fitness centers along with personal trainers are also very common on board a cruise ship. You would be surprised how many people take part in fitness while sailing across oceans and seas. Many of these fitness centers have cardio classes that you can choose to participate in also.

A big one that can be found on all major cruise lines except for Disney and a couple of others are casinos. Gambling is illegal in almost all of the United States, but once the cruise ship gets a certain distance out in the ocean, the casino will open, usually stay open 24 hours for those that want to test their luck.

You can expect nothing but the best dining too on major cruises. From fancy restaurants serving lobsters tails to more common types of food such as slices of pizza and hamburgers. Each cabin will most likely come with a handful of menus from what foods are offered when on a cruise ship.

If you are a night owl then you can enjoy clubs aboard a cruise ship, where you can find dancing and cocktails, if you are old enough of course. Every cruise ship will have some sort of activity, parade or show for the night people.

Whatever it is you are looking for in a cruise, many cruise lines can offer most or even all of them. Call ahead and you will have a highly motivated sales agent that will make sure their cruise line offers everything that you need, and you will have the vacation of a life time.

Can We Combine Travel Abroad With Ecotourism?

December 27th, 2007 Ray Walberg No comments

by Ray Walberg

While no one can ever expect the supporters of mass tourism to come to perfect agreement with those who support ecotourism, it might be possible to educate those on both sides of the fence. One of the key methods for achieving this would be to outline and explain some of the differences between the two philosophies.

For those who travel abroad, the number of ecotourism opportunities continues to grow but with this growth comes concern about travel safety, security of personnel and the rifts between nations seem to exist around the globe. Some of the factors that affect tourism in general, and contribute to the above concerns, are: rich v. poor; developed countries v. developing countries; security issues involving terrorists v. tourists. The key issue is whether it is possible to integrate vacation or “mass” tourism activities with ecotourism that is concerned with additional issues (learning about new cultures, assisting with indigenous people’s projects etc.). Can international travelers choose less-populated destinations, perhaps “less safe” destinations, or must they continue to travel to more luxurious “developed” sites?

One thing that travelers can do is make an informed decision. Mass tourism, the most prominent type of world travel, involves a high level of sales activity, moving large groups of relatively wealthy tourists, holiday packages focused on luxury destinations etc. This industry relies heavily on transportation systems that many would see as not ecologically advisable.

Ecotourism, in contrast, focuses on nature, less impact on the environment, conservation and support of local communities. To the avid ecotourist this preserves the integrity of nature in the destination sites and encourages the preservation of local culture. In many cases, ecotourism also places strong emphasis on, and recommends, environmentally friendly travel methods.

Mass tourism, or international travel based on recreation and consumption, has a much longer history than ecotourism, just as the societies in so-called developed countries have lived according to the produce-and-consume philosophy far longer than environmentalism and ecotourism have been around. While the relatively young ecology movement has trumpeted protection and preservation of natural resources, mass tourism does not necessarily carry this torch. The focus is primarily on enjoyment and profit.

One factor to consider in more detail might be the actual destinations of choice for those interested in mass tourism and those following the ecotourism banner. Some have questioned whether the destinations are suitable for only one type of travel or if there is some chance for integration. For example, some may look at rather undeveloped Pacific islands as ideal for ecotourism, while others may see these islands as a paradise destination meant for mass tourism. To some, these islands lack only the “proper” development to become world tourism destinations.

Some of these sites do receive considerable tourism attention, while others are the end point only for those with ecotourism interests. As world travelers and those with environmental concerns look for additional destinations (for their respective interests and activities) it may be that integration may occur out of necessity. Perhaps, some say, the gap between mass tourism and ecotourism will narrow simply because of the limited number of new tourist destinations

Shopping Tour Of Madrid

December 18th, 2007 Leroy Calstard No comments

by Leroy Calstard

While London and New York are known as shopping meccas, Madrid, Spain is still a shopper’s paradise. You can really find anything you’re looking for whether it’s a small gift for someone back home, an antique piece of furniture, or a designer dress. In fact, if your primary purpose of tourism is shopping then think about choosing Madrid as your travel destination; you won’t be disappointed.

A few words of advice, which apply to any city you’re in; make sure you’re getting what you pay for. If you’re buying something from a stall then make sure you can tell a fake from a genuine item. Know how much something should cost since you may need to bargain in antique stores and flea markets. Don’t get too excited and buy something that you can get cheaper back in the U.S.; check prices online and if you find it’s a deal you can return and purchase it later. Only trust reputable stores with shipping items back home; otherwise ship it yourself.

Madrid has a huge outdoor flea market, El Rastro, where you can find just about anything second hand and some new things as well. There are some affordable antiques that borders on junk depending on what you’re looking for. There are also old clothes, jewelry, books and furniture. It’s a bit of a treasure hunt but that can be half the fun. During the week there are less crowds, and vendors are easier to bargain with but the variety is not as good as the weekends.

If more stall shopping interests you then head to the hippie area in Lavapies or to the Plaza Mayor. There are stalls set up with vendors ready to strike up a deal. Beware of tourist traps and plan to bargain hard.

Shopping for clothing is second to none in Madrid and you’ll have plenty of options. In the Alcala area you’ll find plenty of stores selling shoes, dresses and accessories. For men’s clothing head to Calle Princessa which has plenty of options including tailored suits and handcrafted shoes. Calle Preciado and Montera has both men’s and women’s fashions and they are located in a pedestrian zone which makes for pleasant strolling. If you want more upscale shops, Gran Via and Calle Serrano have plenty of designer clothing with price tags to match.

The Mercado de San Miguel used to be a fish market but today you can find a variety of shops, including some food stalls and restaurants to keep your energy up for more shopping.

Tourism Anywhere Takes the Familiy Everywhere

December 13th, 2007 Guy Morris No comments

by Guy Morris

For most people, you will find that each and every one of your vacations are put on hold because of some sort of financial issue. Instead of pushing yourself further and further into debt, you will want to keep yourself from over doing it and sticking to the budget. You will find that there are a lot of destinations that are on your mind, but the money issues block you from making any arrangements. You need to keep in mind that a good summer vacation can be had on any financial budget.

When you begin to think about where you would like to go on summer vacation you will want to make sure that you are not limiting yourself. You will find that the price of your vacation will end up limiting some of your options, but if you plan your vacation good enough, you should be able to pick a destination that fits into your budget. You will want to think about things like the hotels, restaurants, admission fees, and more so that you can budget your vacation properly. This will require you to go online and do a proper research so that you can save yourself a little bit of money.

When it comes to the beach, you may think that it is a perfect destination option. You will want to keep in mind that there are a lot of famous beaches that will want to budget for. You will want to think about areas like Virginia Beach, Pensacola Beach, and even Long Beach. Keep in mind that you are not limited to just American beaches, but you will also be able to plan a vacation and go overseas. You will want to keep in mind that the cost of the vacation will increase the more you have to travel.

As for some of the hot spots, you will want to consider places like Virginia Beach, Daytona Beach, Myrtle Beach, and even Long beach. You will need to consider of the other beaches too if you are on a tight budget, since the hot sports are very expensive. You will need to consider that the rentals in the area are very high prices and you may end up having to go somewhere else because the travel arrangements are too much. The same can be stated about the bars and restaurants, because everything is expensive if it is near the shoreline.

For those who would like to get in a little bit of time on the green, then you will also want to consider some of the gold resorts in the U.S. You will find that there are many popular golf courses in or around the beaches. This will be an ultimate relaxing vacation. You will need to do a bit of research to find the best rates.

Tropical Weather Is The Birthplace Of Storms

December 8th, 2007 Peter Mason No comments

by Peter Mason

Tropical Storm – Fascinating, Dangerous

For centuries, men and women have been asking one of the grand questions of life. Why do storms occur? Weather forecasters, storm experts and others have been studying storms for years and have uncovered some of the factors that contribute to a tropical storm. While much of the mystery has been eliminated, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about this phenomenon of nature.

One of the basic reasons for storm activity is that the atmosphere that sustains life on earth is constantly seeking a balance between warm air and cool air, between moist conditions and dry conditions, etc. When an excess of heat builds around the equator and tropical areas of the globe, that heat must be dissipated, generally to the latitudes slightly farther from the tropics. A tropical storm is nature’s way of telling us something is out of balance.

Born in the area of warm tropical waters, where surface temperatures of the ocean are usually above 80 degrees (Fahrenheit), tropical storms are the result of natural processes. When air and water vapor move upward (convection), clouds literally gather into thunderstorms. When this occurs at a certain distance from the equator, rotation can begin. This is the first sign of a different form of tropical weather – a hurricane.

The hurricane is the extreme version of a tropical storm. (They are also called typhoons and tropical cyclones, depending on where you are in the world.) In the presence of warmer water, a storm can intensify beyond the level of a tropical storm, primarily because of atmospheric instability and heat build up. When winds at upper levels of the atmosphere pull away rising air, the storm moves from the equator, rotating all the while. If the wind speeds remain between 39 and 74 miles per hour, the earth is experiencing a tropical storm. Should wind speed rise above 74, a hurricane is born.

The extremes of speed and rotation in a hurricane create a unique feature of this storm – the eye. Quite simply, the eye of a hurricane is very calm compared to the rest of these often-massive storms. The low pressure in this area creates clearer conditions than are found in the other parts of the hurricane, where thick clouds and strong winds are key features. Temperature levels vary within the eye as well, with cooler air near the surface of the ocean and warmer temperatures at higher levels. Scientists have found that this area of calm can vary in size from a few miles wide to a diameter of more than 100 miles.

While nature is seeking balance with tropical storms of all intensity levels, human beings continue to look for ways to prepare for these massive storms. One of the keys to this preparation is knowing when the highest wind speeds will arrive at a particular location. These destructive winds are found in the wall of the eye, so forecasters try to focus on when the eye wall will cross various geographical locations. While life on the planet may be negatively impacted by the destructive hurricane, all tropical storms are necessary to maintain a balance in earth’s atmosphere.
