Major Changes At Yahoo

February 17th, 2010 Julie Johnson No comments

These days Yahoo is fighting to maintain its reputation as one of the tech leaders on the web. For many years, this company has bounced back and forth not sure whether to focus on the technical aspects or the media aspects of their internet business, they have recently sold off some of their media tools to Microsoft. And while to some that this may seem like the company is giving up the ghost, they have truly just decided to put their main focus on the technical aspects of their company.

For a while it seemed lime Microsoft may even take over Yahoo. Microsoft did make an offer to Yahoo to acquire the company, but Yahoo eventually refused. Now Yahoo is hoping that by returning their focus to improving their search engine, they can help restore the reputation of the company as well.

Yahoo is now competing with the Google search engine, and Microsoft’s Bing search engine to be the most popular search engine. To do this Yahoo is going to completely change the way their search engine works, which they hope will allow them to provide the most relevant results of all of the search engines. In addition to these major changes to their search engine, Yahoo is also working on developing new and innovative tools that will provide functionality for users that they have never seen before.

Their strategy is to offer a long tail of relevant content for each search using classifications of places, people, and products to help draw in only relevant search results, something that Bing has become more successful at than even super giant Google. Yahoo feels that they can corner the market if they can further narrow down search results to relevant content.

Can they bring about these innovations quickly enough to put them back on the map? Well, this remains to be seen. Yahoo wants to make sure that internet users know that it is too soon to count them out of the game just yet, and that they do have plans in the works for a comeback.

Propositions That Are Essential To Know About Search Engine Marketing

February 2nd, 2010 Jessy Mobile No comments

If you were to talk with a search engine marketing consultant, they would have certain tips to give you. There are many websites these days are not optimized for SERPs. This is important because if you do not have a website which is optimized and shows up in search engine results, you cannot get traffic to your website without having to buy it and this gets expensive.

If you are concerned about how your website shows up in websites, you may inquire about search engine marketing services. These services will usually concentrate their application upon three main areas: incoming links, your content, and your keywords. These are factors which are important for the search engines and will result in your website being placed higher in results if you focus on these propositions. This article will talk more about this.

The first of the important suggestions a search engine marketing services company will examine is competitive analysis. This is done to see how your website stacks up against the competition along with which companies are in the top ten results and why they are there.

The second acute point point to look into is keyword research to see which keywords are actually used by your prospective audience and how competitive these keywords are. Without proper keywords, your website is not visible to your niche audience searching for what you have to offer.

A search engine marketing freelancer will use page optimization to see which keywords are emphasized on various pages. This will ensure that your set of keywords is used properly throughout your website so that you show up for all keywords you are targeting.

Search engine marketing services companies will focus upon site usability. This is important because you want your website to be very easy to get around so that your audience is able to find what they are looking for.

Off page optimization such as link building is the next area which will be focused on by search engine marketing services companies. Link building is important because this is a factor in search engine rankings.

You can also think about using paid search engine marketing such as Adwords. This is an option some search engine marketing consultants will recommend because you can get your website in front of your audience faster than organic search engine marketing optimization efforts.

Contemplating through a search engine marketing consultant’s thought process, you can see why you need to implement these tips. Without using these tips, you are putting your site at jeopardy of not being able to found by your audience. It is acute to put these steps into place before making your site live.

And whether you are trying to market a web based business of a brick and mortar one, you might be surprised that most people begin looking for information about any business on the web.

The research supports that when people search something on Google at least 50% of them will click on the first site that comes up under those search results. Website Design What To Do First

January 28th, 2010 Larry Edwards No comments

In the matter of website design what to do first, a person who is contemplating starting a website or some sort of blog and who thinks that he or she might like to take a crack at designing it needs to keep a few things in mind. First of all, anyone interested in designing a website should sit down and come up with a plan or a concept for what it should look like.

This means, of course, that no small amount of research is going to need to be done beforehand. What is meant by research is the fact that a person will need to correctly identify the market or niche that the website is going to be targeted at. Eventually designing a site that gives the viewer or reader the impression that it is about bicycles when it is really about motorcycles is just one example of intelligent website design.

Along with deciding or determining the kind of niche that the website will be targeted at should be a realization that the site must, above all else, be usable and logical to any visitor or reader who happens to land there. This can create a bit of tension between the desire to make the website look space-age or really relevant, graphics wise, and the need to also be functional and easy to maneuver around.

Those who fail to realize this simple requirement (usability) tend to have websites designed that require multiple plug-ins or that end up taking a really long time to load on a user’s computer because they are extremely heavy with graphics that cause images to load very slowly. Studies show that most viewers of a website will quickly move on if they have any sort of issue viewing that site.

This is why it is important to do the research, identify the market or niche, and then — first of all — design the site so that it is extremely usable. Most experts recommend that websites should try to make use of black text on white backgrounds if possible. If a background is desired, designers should also try to use a plain-color background or go with something that is very subtle.

This is why it will be vital to make sure that the text itself is in a printable color, meaning that while white text on a black background looks good, if it doesn’t print in some other color other than white they’re going to be many user complaints or visits to the website will quickly drop off.

In the end, the matters of website design what to do first come down to research and then usability. Conduct your research to make sure that you are coming up with a thoughtful and relevant website and then make that website extremely easy to use when visitors arrive there.

Importance of Search Engine Optimization

January 1st, 2010 Justin Harrison No comments

The internet has opened up markets that firms and individuals could not previously reach with ease. With a website, you are able to market and sell your product or service on the internet without much hassle and cost. If you have built a website to target these previously unreachable customers, you have to optimize it so that the customers can find it. Just having a website will not guarantee you customers. This is why search engine optimization (SEO) should be considered.

Website traffic is related to sales; the more traffic you have, the higher your sales will be. Having a website on the internet is only a first step to getting traffic. You must incorporate SEO for the traffic to come sufficiently. Most web users search for products and services by typing a keywords or key phrase in a search engine. Therefore, you should optimize your website based on the keywords that your customers will use to search for you. It is rare to find users who directly go to the homepage of a website to get a specific product. Most will search for the product and then visit the top results displayed by search engines. This is why SEO is important.

Before you start optimizing your website, you have to know the keywords that you customers and prospects will use to search for your product or service. The keyword can be a single word or a number of words, in which case it would be referred to as a key phrase. After establishing the keyword or key phrase, you have to optimize it in your website. How do you do this?

First, you have to indicate the keyword in the Title tag. This is done when you are designing the website. The Title tag is important as it is the first phrase that a search engine spider comes across on your website. Write the title in a descriptive manner and incorporate the keyword. Having done this, you also have to incorporate the keyword in the headings and body content of the webpage. Ensure you bold the headings as this will enable the search engines to easily detect the keywords and key phrases. Write good content your visitors will like and use the keywords in the content once in a while. The keywords should not be forced to fit in the content; they should appear naturally.

Having keywords in your webpage is not enough to bring you the traffic you require. You should consider other methods of optimizing your website. Some of these include link building, participating in blogs and forums, article submission to niche directories, among others. Linking the pages of your website together is called internal linking. This enables the search engines to easily crawl and read your content. You can also link your website to other websites that are related to you in terms of the services of products they offers. Here, you link to the website and the website links back to you. This is known as back linking and is important if your website is to be ranked highly.

Search engine optimization is important for any website if you are to get traffic. When correctly done, your website can appear in the top pages of search engines for a specific keyword or key phrase search and thus there will be increased traffic to the website.

Can Your Business Handle A Significant Increase In Web Traffic?

December 29th, 2009 Julie Johnson No comments

It is easy to see why many business people think that they cant get enough from their internet advertising. As far as SEO management goes, when you speak to most business people, they will tell you that more is better and that you can never get enough traffic directed to your website. This is definitely not the case.

As with any advertising campaign, it is important for you to monitor your company’s web site, and determine what aspects of the site are effective, and which aspects of the web site need to be improved. When it comes to advertising via a web site, you also need to monitor the amount of traffic, and new customers that are using your products and services, in order to ensure that your business can handle the growth associated with these new customers. Unfortunately many business do not consider this aspect of web advertising, their only concern is about constantly increasing the number of visitors to the web site every week, month, quarter or year.

While not enough advertising is not a good thing for any business, too much web advertising can be detrimental to your business. If you attract many new customers, but cannot provide the required products or services, this can have a serous negative impact on the reputation of your business. And what about your existing customers, who have helped make your business what is today, would they still be satisfied with the products or services they are getting? If your business grows to much too quickly, not only can you loose your new customers, because you are not able to meet the new demands, but you could also loose your existing customers, which could mean disaster for your business.

If you have a small business, and you are working hard to improve your web sites rankings in various search engine results lists, this may sound contradictory to your current goals. The reality of the situation is, though, that if your web site were to suddenly be on the top of the list, for every relevant search on all of the major search engines, it is very likely that your business would not be able to handle the increased demands. In the end it is more important to make sure you are meeting the needs of your existing customers, and slowly grow your business, then to attract as many new customers as possible.

So manage your internet marketing, just like you would any other aspect of your business, and you will find that you need to accept growth in steps and that there is such a thing as too much good advertising.

Windows 7 – Better Or Worse Than Vista?

December 29th, 2009 Julie Johnson No comments

When Microsoft released their Windows Vista operating system it was supposed to be their next great version of Windows. Unfortunately, Windows users and critics did not agree with Microsoft, and Vista may be one of the biggest failures that the company ever had when it comes to the their PC operating systems. Windows quickly re-grouped and began work on Windows 7, which would answer all of the complaints and bugs that Vista users were quick to point out. So now that Windows 7 is available, how does it compare to past versions of Windows? Well one thing is for sure, it cannot be worse then Vista.

Microsoft did have users test their new operating system before it was made available to the general public. Of the 550 users who test Windows 7 before its release, many had at least minimal familiarity with Windows products prior to this trial. Of these 550 users, 61% are using the system for home and personal use mostly, 25% said they were using it for both home and work equally and about 14% found themselves using it almost entirely for their business needs. The testers were also split between users who installed the Windows 7 operating system into a clean computer, and users who installed it directly over Windows Vista.

Overall the response was positive showing a very small percentage of users who experienced difficulty with the installation, and this is to be expected when you install just about any new operating system. Most felt that the installation went smoothly with the predominant area of problems being in the areas of driver compatibility and areas of other software incompatibility. Of course, with these issues some users did experience a crash of their system and a few did have the blue screen of death occur. This was a very small percentage and should not be of concern for most who are switching to the Windows 7 operating system.

In general user experience has been beneficial with only about 5% of people reporting that they were not satisfied with the overall performance of the operating system itself. As compared to the test run for Windows Vista before it was released, this had about half the users complaining about it before it got out of the gates.

Microsoft’s promise of their best operating system ever may have finally come true with Windows 7. Microsoft learned many hard lessons from the Vista operating system, and took those lessons, along with significant feedback from the user community into consideration when developing Windows 7. That being said, there are of course some bugs and glitches in the Windows 7 operating system, but Microsoft is hard at work resolving those issues, and distributing patches and updates automatically to Windows 7 users. As long as Microsoft remains diligent in fixing Windows 7 issues as they arise, then their is no reason why any PC owner should not upgrade if they have the chance. This is especially true if you are still using Vista and it is making you miserable.

What Are The Greatest Tricks To Increase Your Seo Rankings?

December 25th, 2009 Susan Reynolds No comments

The Internet is a very competitive market. Companies are competing to draw the attention of millions of Internet users, and an important part of the battle takes places in search engines. Here are some practical tips on how to increase your SEO rankings and get more traffic to your website:

Your main responsibility ad a webmaster is to promote your website so that it gets a higher place in search engines. If your websites has no visibility, no one will find it. For example, if your site or blog is about beauty products, you should use relevant keywords to promote it. If you succeed, it will appear on the first pages in search engines.

Keywords are words that may be used by people searching for information. You can use keywords consisting of single terms or phrases. In other words, those who search for something on Google re using a keyword or keyword phrase. Therefore, it is extremely important to use the most appropriate keywords in order for your website to appear on first few pages of a search engine.

If you look in the upper left of your web browser, you will see a text that displays the Web page you’re visiting and in some cases, a brief description of the website. This text is known as a web page title. The title is one of the first things that a search engine spider ’sees’ when scanning a website. This is why you must choose relevant titles for your articles and posts.

Using white text on white background, including text behind an image, using CSS to hide text and setting the font size to 0 can make your site be perceived as untrustworthy. If it is considered that your site contains hidden links and text, it may be removed from Google index. This means that it won’t appear in search engines.

Try to get a significant number of backlinks to your website. The best is to find websites that agree to link to your site without asking you to do the same. If you exchange links, do it only if you found websites that are relevant to your site. If your website is about cell phones, it doesn’t make sense to get links from a blog that provides love tips and advice.

Examples of schemes of links may include: links created to manipulate Page Rank, links to spammers or malicious sites on the Web and excessive reciprocal links or excessive exchange links (“Create a link to me and I will create a link to you.). The best way to determine other websites to link back to you is to create unique content which can quickly gain popularity on the web and increase your website SEO Rankings.
