The Overwhelming Ace Of Diamonds

March 16th, 2010 Miles Sunkest No comments

Here is a great card trick that is based largely in misdirection. It requires a little bit of set up, but with only a few minutes practice you should be able to effectively perform this successfully in front of any audience. This is a big hit with kids, as it doesn’t require any special sleight of hand moves, and it’s pretty simple once you figure it out.

This is how the ploy will appear to your astounded audience. You take three Aces: Spades, Clubs, and Diamonds. You hold them out, opening them to the audience. Then you set them on top of the deck, and jumble up and cut the deck several times, making sure that they have been regularly dispersed.

You then ask a volunteer to come up and search for the Ace of Diamonds. They will explore in vain, as they won’t be able to find it. If you like, you can get a new audience member to come up and look, but they too will be disastrous. Then you pull the Ace of Diamonds out of your shirt pocket. (Or your back pocket, or shoe, or wherever.)

Here’s how to set the trick up. First find all the Aces. Then put the Ace of Diamonds in your pocket (or shoe or wherever) beforehand. Then place the other Aces on top of the deck. When you draw the three Aces off the top, and fan them out, make sure to hold the Ace of Hearts in the core. If you place both other cards on either side of the Ace of Hearts, it will look like the Ace of Diamonds to the audience.

How you sound this is important. If you bring up beforehand that you are going to make the Ace of Diamonds cease to exist, they will be looking much more personally. But if you just start of by recounting what you are doing, and then name the three cards (Ace of Clubs, Spades, and Diamonds) they will likely have faith in you, and not gaze too closely at the three cards.

One way that can exceedingly help is as you are shuffling and cutting the deck, is to convey some long winded story about how diamonds have some kind of breathtaking power, and in the old days when they were choosing the shapes for cards, they almost didn’t choose diamonds because people were always stealing them, or they were always disappearing or something. That way, when they start thinking about the Ace of Diamonds, it will already be secreted someplace in the deck, or so they believe. Have fun with this trick.

Immediately Set up A Psychic Link With Any Audience

March 16th, 2010 Miles Sunkest No comments

Here’s a great pseudo psychic trick that is based on Neuro Linguistic Programming, or NLP. It’s easy to learn and will give you lots of instant credibility if you are planning on doing some up close magic work. It’s a great way to build quick rapport with your audience, which is always a good thing.

Any magician knows that standing is very eminent when demonstrating a sequence of magic tricks. One gaffe and you’re cover is blown, and they’ll be watching you with a much closer eye. When people witness a magic act, specially if they’d paid money, they want to be dazzled and entertained. They don’t want to have to make believe that you are magic. They want to believe you are magic.

A great way to set yourself up as an authority in their minds is through some ostensibly astounding clairvoyant mind reading. But through some basic eye accessing cues, you can usually tell what kinds of thoughts they are thinking. When you match up your “lingo” with the kinds of thoughts they are thinking, your reliability, and their delight, will skyrocket.

Here are the all-purpose rules. When individuals look up, either up and to the right, or up and to the left, they are usually thinking visually. They are literally seeing pictures in their minds. When folks are looking side to side, they are in general thinking of sounds, either voices, songs, or music. When folks look down, either down and to the right, or down and to the left, they are in general thinking of “feeling” thoughts.

A great way to include this into your act is to pick a special person, and then build up a short chat with them. As you pay attention to their eyes, and gain an understanding into their thoughts, you can straightforwardly match your words to their type of thinking. Certainly put, talk in picture words (look, see, notice, etc.) when they are looking up, and converse in sound words (hear, listen, music, etc.) when they are looking side to side. People rarely think in terms of feelings when they are out watching a show. It is more of a visual and auditory experience.

While these tips are incredibly plain, and rough, they will go a great deal in helping you gain a huge amount of connection in a relatively short amount of time with any audience, or even with a one on one encounter when you are demonstrating street magic. These skills can even be used in a non-magic setting, like on a date or inside a relationship, but I’ll leave that up to you.

The Humbling Telepathic Card Trick

March 14th, 2010 Miles Sunkest No comments

If you love to do up close magic, but can’t be bothered with learning all kinds of technical sleight of hand maneuvers, then you’ve come to the right place. This a completely mathematically based self working trick, which means anybody can do it. But since it seems to be mysterious, you can play it off like you’ve got powerful psychic abilities, and impress loads of people with this simple trick. The more you talk this trick up, the better.

Here’s how the deception looks like to your soon so be awestruck audience. You tell them that you have recently learned some influential skills of psychic projection. You can place thoughts secretly in their mind. Of course, they don’t trust you, and they ask for a display, to which you luckily oblige.

You pull out a regular deck of cards, and open up the cards so that only you can see the cards. You spend a substantial amount of psychic force looking at the cards, and looking at your companion. Then you put the cards back into a normal stack, and tell the person to decide on any two cards, without naming the suit. Like ace, and queen, or ten and three, for example.

Once they choose their two cards, you search through the deck, and show them that the two cards they chose are right next to each other. They will be shocked, and likely ask you to do this trick again. You go through the motions of looking at the cards, and projecting the numbers into their heads. Once again they choose two cards, and once again you show them their two cards are right next to each other in the deck.

The rationale this always works is due to utter mathematical probability. Since they aren’t naming the suit of the card, and only the number, there is about a ninety percent chance that any two cards they pick will be next to each other, since when they choose two cards, their really choosing eight (two cards of four suits each). And just utter mathematics, the likelihood of any two of any eight cards in a deck being next to each other is about ninety percent.

Of course, the more you chat this trick up, the better. The more you pretend to project thoughts into their mind, and go through the motions of doing heartrending psychic projection the better. If you want you can make a kindly wager with them that you can accurately “project” the cards into to their head before the trick. Have fun with this.

The Delightful Regrowing Money Trick

March 13th, 2010 Miles Sunkest No comments

If you love doing up close magic tricks, this show stopper will entertain like no other. This magic trick is done with everybody’s favorite thing, money. And because nobody will be able to guess how you did this incredible trick, your magical charisma will be through the roof. This does take a bit of practice and preparation, but it’s well worth it.

Here’s how the trick will seem to your enthusiastic audience. You pull out a bill, any bill will do, but I propose using only a dollar, as you will be cutting it in half. You elucidate to the crowd that you have recently uncovered some authoritative money magic from the gods of riches, and you are going to give a demo. You pull out a dollar bill, and a pair of scissors.

As the mass looks on eagerly, you slice the dollar bill in half. You clutch each half up individually for all to perceive, and with some magic words, and maybe a wave of your magic wand, with each hand you magically make each cut half grow into a new, full dollar bill. You have just performed the ridiculous. You have cut a dollar bill in half, and each half has grown a new half, so now you have two dollars!

Here’s the ploy. Before, you’ll want to carefully arrange both bills. You take each bill, and delicately coat the center of each with a thin strip of rubber cement. Make sure to cover both sides. After you have finished covering each side with rubber cement, carefully dust the rubber cement with baby powder, or talcum powder.

When you pull out the “single” bill, it is really two bills placed narrowly together. When you cut through each bill, you will have two halves that are linked by the rubber cement. So when you unfold each half, they will look to be a single bill, when in fact it is two separate bills that are now glued together by the rubber cement.

This takes a bit of preparation, so make sure you prepare with some regular paper. Of course, if you don’t like the idea of cutting real money in half, you can always use stage money, or monopoly money. Also it’s a decent idea to talk a good game before and after the trick. Another good idea is to speedily put both bills back in your pocket, where you have two more duplicate bills waiting, should anybody ask to inspect them. This works great at parties or bars, where individuals are comfortable and having a good time. Have fun with this.

The Overwhelming Mind Reading Card Trick

March 13th, 2010 Miles Sunkest No comments

Here’s a great card trick that will always impress them, and they will never figure out how you do it, unless of course you choose to tell them. This is great with both kids and adults. And it’s perfect to add your own story or personal patter to make it unique to yourself. They are plenty of ways to reveal this cool trick.

Here’s the essential trick, as it seems to your spectators. You hold a customary deck of cards, and fan it out, like they would think. Then you command them to choose a card, any card. They pick card, and you tell them to scrutinize it cautiously, and present it to their friends. After they place it back in the deck, you strangely pluck it right out. They will be shocked, and think you have powerful telepathic powers.

Here’s how to do the caper. While they are busily learning their card, you divide the deck, and make a place for them to place their card. All you need to do is take a quick peak at the card that you will put on top of theirs. Just bear in mind this card, and once they place there’s in the deck, you’ll know exactly what card comes after. There are several ways to reveal this trick.

The most evident way is to simply make believe you are reading their mind while looking through the cards. Then when you get to there’s (which is next to the one you peaked at), you simply pull it out. This alone will worth the price of admission. But hang around, there’s more.

You can hunt through the deck, pretending to look for it. Once you get to there card, divide and re stack the pack so their card is on top. Then place the deck face down on a board, say some captivating expressions, tap the top, and there card will be on top. But hang on, that’s not all, there’s one more powerful reveal.

Once you have their card on top, place the deck behind your back, or under the table. Then promptly take their card out, flip it over, and place it back in the deck, so it’s facing the opposite direction of all the other cards. Then imagine that you can’t guess their card, and get them to tell you which one it was. Then only look through the deck, now with the cards face up, and there’s will be the only card that is face down. This is only a few ways to reveal their card, I’m sure you can consider of many others. The more you can talk up your psychic powers of inference before this trick, the better. You’ll have a astonished audience in no time, wanting to see more tricks. Have fun with this.

It’s true to state that many have seen a temporary lull within construction, but the requirement for domestic plumbing technicians continually surpasses supply. Everyone knows a person or even a friend of another close friend that was not able to locate an emergency plumbing technician for several weeks! There is also loads more work to be had putting in additional lavatories, brand new shower cubicles, en-suite bathrooms and so forth simply because families are relocating less frequently and upgrading much more. Consequently therefore, enrolling on some plumbing-related training programme is a really smart employment move.

Individuals leaving compulsory education will usually enrol in further education college full time – then get work know-how and NVQs or SVQs. Nevertheless more mature job movers prefer to retain their old employment while they retrain part-time. This is usually where many of the commercial training companies score top: As they provide adaptable programs containing tutorials which will satisfy the requirements of the home-based plumbing-related marketplace. Although students in commercial institutions work part time, they can acquire knowledge quickly – by simply concentrating on the particular level of re-training that’s essential for the domestic work they’re going to end up undertaking.

Chiefs’ Cassel May Not Be Ready For NFL Opening Game

February 22nd, 2010 Ross Everett No comments

The good news for the Kansas City Chiefs as they prepare for the start of the NFL regular season is that their starting quarterback is back at practice. The bad news is that they still dont know when hell be able to play. Matt Cassel returned to the Chiefs practice field on Monday for the first time since he injured his left knee in a NFL preseason game on August 29th. Still, theres been no confirmation from either he or the team as to when hell return to action.

Cassel, who saw his stock shoot up precipitously as an NFL QB following his solid play in New England after starter Tom Brady went down to a season ending injury, signed a six year, $28 million contract with the Chiefs in the off season. Although Cassel was in full uniform at Mondays practice, head coach Todd Haley was noncommittal about whether he or Brodie Croyle would start Sundays NFL regular season opener on the road against the Baltimore Ravens:

“I think that as the week goes on, we’ll know a little bit more. We’ll know a little bit more with Matt for sure. But it was good that he was out there. He was able to get through some things. As the week goes on a little further, we’ll know a little more as far as where he’s at.”

“It’s good this is a long week. That will help with anybody who’s nicked up. I would say generally you would need to have a full practice to have a chance to play. Generally, you need to have a full Friday practice to have a chance.”

With or without Cassel, the Chiefs offense sputtered in the preseason scoring only two touchdowns. The lack of productivity cost offensive coordinator Chan Gailey his job and Kansas City stumbled to a 0-4 record in their NFL exhibition contests. Haley has taken over the offensive play calling for the time being, though it made no difference in the Chiefs final preseason game. Neither Croyle nor third stringer Tyler Thigpen was particularly sharp in preseason play, though Croyle got the most work and should get the nod on Sunday if Cassell is unable to play. Better to bring Cassel back slowly even if it means losing a game or two rather than rush him back and potentially have him re-injure his knee.

The Chiefs face a tough assignment as they get the 2009 NFL regular season underway, pitted against the defensive tenacity of the Baltimore Ravens on the road. The Chiefs will host the Oakland Raiders in week 2 of the NFL season before traveling to Philadelphia on September 27 for a game against the Eagles.

Comparing Solar Energy Classes Across The UK

February 21st, 2010 Jason Kendall No comments

In a nutshell, ‘Green Energy’ utilises natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat to provide our daily energy requirement. They’re all considered naturally able to replenish and thereby ‘Green’. The older energy skill sets often have value set in times gone by especially when we think of wind power and windmills. This option is preserved by the use of technology, eco-efficient options and planet friendly alternatives.

The home can use a range of new ideas to help with energy usage including Solar Thermal and Solar Water Heating Collectors. Equally there is the basic electricity generated through roof-installed panels. Equally important is that of Biomass Energy which includes Stoves, Fuel, Pellets and Boilers burning Wood. Then we have the ancient energy of the Sun and the heat that come it – now often called Ground Source Heat Pumps. At the end there are two of the most mature forms of energy methods in the UK albeit renamed as Wind Turbines and Hydropower.

Through a brief review of each we can look at those wanting to train and work in this area and the skills that they will need. Considering the points raised so far, this is expected to be somewhere in the domain of the Plumber, the Gas Engineer and the Electrician. It would be worth gathering information from as many different sources as possible, so check out our other pages on Electrical, Green and Plumbing careers. So it is worth checking out the sites for a variety of training providers as a result bookmark (CTRL-D) this page so you can come back.

Thermal Solar Energy Systems: This technology is based around two core types of knowledge to achieve the results known as Solar Energy. First, we have Solar Water Heating Collectors, which absorb energy from the Sun and transfer this into hot water. Whereas Solar Electrical panels or Photovoltaic heat collectors transfer solar radiation into electricity. Obviously situated away from blockages such as chimneys these Solar Panels basically need to be mounted on south facing roofs at an angle of 30 degrees from the horizontal.

For the UK this is often considered the most popular form of ‘Green Energy’. With the ability to provide almost half the annual need for hot water in the house then Solar Water heating systems is very important. The cost of fitting depends on whether you do it yourself – 500 to 1500 pounds or whether you get a professional fit in which it will cost between 2-5k overall.

Biomass Energy Systems – Includes all natural forms derived from plant and animal products such as wood, straw, poultry litter and ‘energy crops’. It’s the ability of this power source to generate diverse forms of energy such as heat and electricity that makes this so adaptable. It is a useful point to make that the UK is one of the major producers of Biomass fuels within Europe. It should be borne in mind that the whole process is designed to produce energy without an impact on CO2. That being said the process where each tree felled is replaced by another helps to reduce the overall effect on C02 as a part of energy produced.

A process titles Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) such as Willow and Poplar are used to meet the demands of such ‘Energy Crops’. Perennial grasses are also responsible for large quantities of dry matter. Of equal importance, although maybe less well known are Municipal and Agricultural Waste. Using normal agricultural activity, Agricultural waste is a natural by-product. Another biomass element is that called municipal waste and this comes from wood or food goods.

Systems Based On Geo-Thermal Energy: Used in the generation of warm water and electricity this energy mainly comes from the Sun and heats the Earth. Having a consistent ground temperature of around 12 degrees centigrade is fortunate for the UK as it allows both the heating and cooling of buildings. With four units replaced for every one unit of energy used these heat pumps are very effective. This system can go even further if energy efficient items such as wind turbines or solar electrical panels are used.

Wind Energy Based Systems – The use of wind as a source of energy has been going on for thousands of years, especially in milling grain and pumping water. That aside the ability to generate energy and transfer this onto homes or the local grid has been a relatively new option. In fact, the UK has the largest wind resource within Europe. Potentially we can produce 10 percent of our annual energy needs through wind power although at present within the UK we still only use 1 percent. Although electricity is still being produced from between 2-10 p per kWh it could be generated from as little as 2p per kWh. Due to this we are looking at 6-9 months in total to cover the costs.

Within the UK, Hydropower is an energy process that suits the energy generation model. The ability to utilise energy from moving water, much like wind power, has been going on for thousands of years. That said, this type of energy can generate around 2 percent of the total electrical demand for the UK.

It is a Hydropower process, using a turbine that can convert the energy from one for into another. It is by either water drops or Natural River runs that turbines can work through this process ‘Micro-Hydro’ however avoids this system killed off by the larger national distribution methods and plans to use the outdated sluices and dams. This smaller form of electrical output has been recently reviewed and could allocate some 200MW of capacity to the UK system. The expected cost of installing a system such as this would be between 200 pounds and 3k per kW of output.

It can be seen that the route to ‘Green Energy’ is growing considerably, especially in light of the need for increasing energy outputs throughout the Western World. To be fair, the UK domestic market is leading the resurgence with the variety of schemes detailed above.

With the bulk of development work in the domestic field both the Plumbers and Electricians are set to capitalise in this area. You can now get a range of grants to support the growth of renewable energy ideas within the European market. Equally important is the role of gaining qualifications to install items that we have talked about. By mixing green training with those of electrical or plumbing you could cover both angles.

Essential Attributes That Make A Good Corporate Photographer

February 18th, 2010 Randy Phillips No comments

Corporate photography has become an integral part of firms of all kinds and sizes, but finding a good person for this task is not simple. Corporate photography needs an entirely different set of skills that many professional photographers in the market who are adept in other forms of photography may not have.

Companies planning to engage a corporate photographer should focus on some key qualities and check the experience of the candidate to make sure that he can provide good output.

Versatility is the prime thing that you should look for in a corporate photographer as he may have to deal with a variety of jobs like covering an event, photography for ads, or coming up with attractive photographs of the company’s products. A preferred corporate photographer should always be ready to execute all these responsibilities with haste and meticulousness.

Fast-paced corporate events don’t allow photographers to comfortably plan different angles or shoot retakes, so extreme alertness on the part of the photographer is vital. A corporate event does not always happen by a set scheme and a relaxed approach on part of the photographer will reflect poorly on his work. Hence, a corporate photographer must have a good presence of mind and should always be conscious of the happenings around him.

It is also very essential for a corporate photographer to be able to extract the best of the resources provided to him. For instance, he may have to work in a crowded venue with dim light, especially when the corporate event is an indoor one. Even in such challenging situations, he must be capable of clicking good quality photographs.

Another important factor that must be taken into consideration is the photographer’s work ethic and the importance he gives to his job. It is important for a corporate photographer not to be indifferent towards the company. A good photographer must be able to build a personal rapport with the staff, as they need to be comfortable when the pictures are being taken at official or informal events in the company. Besides, the photographer must not be unpleasant by character or a tough person to work with.

It is advisable to go through the photographer’s portfolio and see some samples, and not allow yourself to be prejudiced by his standing in the market alone. It is advisable to arrange face-to-face interviews with the candidates to get to know their disposition and qualifications, and to judge how well they are suited for the job.

UFC 85 Flashback: Alves, Bisping Win

February 16th, 2010 Ross Everett No comments

Thiago Alves dominated the former UFC welterweight champion en route to a 2nd round TKO victory at UFC 83. The main event at UFC 85 in London was somewhat anticlimactic to the fans at the O2 Arena who considered the semifinal matchup between Manchesters Michael Bisping and Jason Day the biggest fight on the card. Bisping actually improved upon his excellent showing against Charles McCarthy at UFC 83 and pummeled Day mercilessly from the top mount position until the fight was stopped.

Hughes didnt make any excuses following his one sided loss, saying simply that hes a good fighter and he got me. The longtime king of the UFCs welterweight division also gave notice that his career as an active fighter was drawing to a close, suggesting that he had one fight left and challenging Matt Serra in what presumably would be his retirement match.

The end came early in the 2nd round as Hughes was caught coming in by a devastating knee strike. He fell to the canvas in a heap and referee Herb Dean was jumping in to stop the contest before Alves could follow up with any punches.

Michael Bisping simply overwhelmed Jason Day en route to a lopsided TKO victory. Bisping built upon the improved boxing skills he demonstrated at UFC 83 by unveiling an impressive ground and pound attack. Day never really got anything going and by the last minute of the fight was simply trying to cover up to prevent damage from Bispings elbows and hammer fists. Between his move down to the middleweight division and his improved technical striking skills, Bisping looks like a different fighter. His post UFC 83 suggestion that he wanted a fight with Anderson Silva seemed premature at the time, but following another devastating performance its starting to look much more realistic.

In other action, Mike Swick used an array of high kicks and a 7 reach advantage to coast to a unanimous decision over Marcus Davis. Davis, a former professional boxer, was unable to get inside against his lanky opponent and was never really in the fight. Like Bisping, Swick may have made an excellent career choice by moving down in weight. His height and reach, combined with a well rounded striking game, makes him a particularly different matchup at the lower weight.

A controversial point deduction for a strike to the back of the head cost Nate Marquardt his match against Thales Leites. Marquardt was solidly in charge for the entire fight, but suffered a point deduction for an illegal knee strike in round one. While that infraction was valid, replays of the 2nd round deduction for the strike to the back of the head gave the impression that he was penalized for a legal strike to the side of the head. The 2 point deduction changed the outcome of the fight, with Leites winning a split decision by the scores of 28-27, 28-27, 27-28.

In the opening PPV match, another controversial ending saw Fabrico Werdum defeat Brandon Vera by 1st round KO. The fight had been evenly contested up until the stoppage, with Werdum scoring a couple of takedown and Vera countering with some effective punching. Late in the first round, Werdum got a full mount and began to fire a series of punches. Vera was clearly defending himself and didnt appear to be hurt at all when the referee jumped in to stop the fight. Vera said that hed answered that he was OK when asked by ref Dan Miragliotta and that he was just trying to ride out the round from that position. Mirgliotta was also the referee in the Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight, and some have suggested that matchup was also stopped prematurely.
