Why is My Computer Running Slow?

August 19th, 2009 Jack Spencer No comments

Some of us may consider ourselves to be fairly good with the computer but there are parts of it were we may never venture into, such as the Windows registry. Since the Windows registry is so important to the operation of our computer, a simple mistake whenever editing it can cause your computer to be unusable and perhaps not even be able to start in the first place.

You might be surprised to learn that a lot of the problems that occur with our computers occur as a result of problems within the Windows registry. The registry is constantly being written to and information is also being taken away from the registry regularly. For example, any time you install or uninstall programs, data is added to or removed from the registry, even if you are not aware of it taking place.

As a result of all of these changes taking place in the Windows registry, there are problems that come up from time to time which can seriously hinder how well your computer runs. One of the problems that commonly takes place is for duplicate lines of code to stack up in the registry and whenever your computer tries to access the registry, it has to sort through all of this useless information before getting what it actually wants.

Corrupted lines of code is also something that happens regularly in the Windows registry and this can cause even more severe problems than a slow running computer. If your registry should happen to become corrupted, you will see an increasing number of times that your computer is crashing and freezing, often without giving any warning at all.

You may not realize this, but the Windows registry is one of the first places that you should be checking if you’re having a problem with your computer in this way. The unfortunate thing about this is that very few of us are able to go into the registry and check for these problems, let alone being able to fix them manually. That is why it is our recommendation that you download a cleaner for the registry, such as RegDefence.

These registry cleaners run in several different phases which take you all the way from having a computer which is corrupted through to having one which is clear. The initial phase is typically free and it is where the registry cleaner will scan your computer in order to find any problems that may exist on it. This may take a considerable amount of time, depending on how corrupted your registry is and how many programs are running at any given time.

Whenever the scan has been completed, RegDefence will show you a list of the problems that it is found within the Windows registry and give you a variety of different options in order to be able to fix it. After the program finishes cleaning the registry, you will usually notice quite an improvement in the response time of your computer and how quickly it starts. Although this is something that will need to be done regularly in many cases, it can help your computer to run much faster if you’re registry is constantly being bombarded with changes that are making it corrupted.

Problems with Spyware? Use Anti-Spyware to Get Rid of It

July 15th, 2009 Jack Spencer No comments

The personal computer has not been around all that many years, but in those years a lot of different problems have occurred which really need to be taking care of as they occur. For example, whenever viruses first began to occur, they were wiping out computers all over the place and antivirus programs needed to be put into place an order to take care of it.

The Internet has touched us all in some way or another and for some of us, it changes the way that we live our day-to-day lives. The real problem is the fact that because of the Internet, many different computers began to be interconnected in some way or another and this made it easier for unscrupulous individuals to cause problems for us. One of the ways in which this occurred is through small spyware programs that easily were installed once they were downloaded from the Internet.

Although there are a number of different problems that can occur as a result of spyware, one of the main difficulties is the fact that it resides in the background and is able to record everything that you do on the computer. Not only can it spy on personal information and activities, it can also record keystrokes that you are typing. Some of the more sophisticated pieces of spyware are able to recognize when you are typing things such as passwords and credit card numbers and once it recognizes that, it transfers them over to somebody else so that they can use them.

Another problem that commonly occurs as a result of spyware are pop-up windows. Pop-up windows can be annoying enough whenever there are one or two of them around but at times, spyware causes so many different pop-up windows to occur that you cannot even see your computer screen underneath. Even though a pop-up window is really only a way of showing advertising, the advertising can be rather annoying and at times, inappropriate for young children.

There are a number of different things that you can do whatever you have a problem with spyware and you certainly are not without options as far as that is concerned. Some of the anti-spyware programs that are currently available are extremely sophisticated and they are able to clean almost any problem that may be occurring from a spyware attack automatically. They do this in a similar way to how an antivirus program works, only they do it for spyware.

The first thing that you’re going to need to do whatever you want to use one of these anti-spyware programs is to download the scanner off of their website and to allow it to check your computer for problems. Typically, it will come back with a list of different problems that it observed and you might be surprised with the amount of spyware that is on your computer.

The only other thing that is left to do after the initial scan is complete is to let the anti-spyware program clean the problems that it is found on your computer automatically. You can expect this to take a little while as well, but it will be well worth the time spent once the spyware has been cleaned from your computer. After you restart the computer when it is finished with the cleaning process, all of the spyware should be gone permanently.

Using the Area Code System to Your Benefit

July 3rd, 2009 Jack Spencer No comments

If you have been getting a phone call and are unaware of where it is coming from, there is a three digit part of the phone number that can be quite telling. This is the first three digits that shows up whenever you are looking at the caller ID, something that is known as the area code.

Whenever the phone company first started to go with the new numerical system many years ago, they split up various areas of the country into a three digit area code. There were 999 of these codes that were available, although they did not use them all up at that particular time. Each area of the country was assigned to one area code, at times multiple area codes.

The population soon overtook the existing area codes so additional area codes were added into the mix. As a result of this, you might find that one particular area of the country has multiple area codes assigned to it but other areas of the country have a single area code that might incorporate an entire city. If there are enough telephones within the area, an area code will be assigned which will allow for future growth as well.

Cellular telephones also added to the number of area codes that were in use and many of these are specifically used for cell phones. Another thing that has added to the number of area codes that are in use are fax lines, especially in use with businesses. That is why it is not always a simple matter of looking up the area code in order to find out who it is that has been calling you.

By looking at the area code, you will get a general idea of where the individual who is calling you is located. It could be a specific region of the country but it may also span several states in some rare cases. Some of the area codes go across an area that is quite large but typically, there are too many cellular telephones and use for this to be the case any longer. That is why the area code gives you more of a specific idea of where they are calling from.

If you would like to nail it down a little bit further, there are searches that are available on the Internet which help you reverse engineer a phone number and find out exactly who it is that has been calling you. If they were calling from a landline, this information is commonly available to the public but cellular telephone information is not always available because of privacy issues.

If you’re unable to find the information that you need on the Internet, you might have to resort to paying somebody a small fee in order to find information for you. None of us enjoy paying for this information but it is one of the only guaranteed ways that we have of finding out who is behind the number.

Understanding the Basics behind a Hosting Account

June 25th, 2009 Jack Spencer No comments

Designing or owning websites is an exciting type of business but there is some specified knowledge that you are going to need in order to move forward effectively. This is especially true whenever it comes to hosting, and you should understand the various types of hosting and options that are available to you. If you overlook any of these options, your business may suffer as a result.

Although there are almost an endless number of hosting companies that are available online, they really can be broken down into three separate types of hosting that are available. These types are shared hosting, virtual private servers and dedicated servers. Understanding the difference between the two can help you to grow your business slowly and to move up as necessary.

A shared server is by far the most popular and this is the one that you’re probably going to want to have when you’re first starting out. Far more individual websites and business websites are hosted on shared servers than any other type of servers on the Internet. The fact of the matter is, you’re going to be on a physical box which is similar to a dedicated server but you’re going to have to share it with multiple other websites. Nobody will be able to access the personal information on your part of the server but you, even there there may be a thousand other websites on the server.

Most hosting companies are not going to reveal to you how many other websites are existing on any of their physical servers. As a result of all of these websites being put on the same server, you can run into some rather unique problems. For example, if one of the websites is running a script that goes rogue, it might end up slowing down or perhaps even shutting down the entire server for a time. This is an uncommon occurrence if you go with a reliable company, but it does happen from time to time.

Whenever you’re ready to move up to a virtual Private server, you are really only moving up to the same type of account with one small difference. A VPS is still a shared server but instead of sharing your server space with thousands of other webmasters, you are only sharing it with about six. This gives you access to a much larger portion of the server resources. You will usually notice an immediate difference in how quickly and smoothly or websites run once you’re on a VPS.

It takes a little bit of time for your business to grow to the extent where it needs a dedicated server, but there will eventually come a time whenever this is the case. Many people who are not technical minded can find the entire process of moving to a dedicated server difficult, but it does not necessarily need to be that way. A dedicated server is the same thing as any other type of server but you will have access to all of the resources. This can really boost the performance of your websites noticeably.

One of the interesting things about virtual Private servers and dedicated servers is that you can often add different things to them. For example, you can pay for upgraded memory or perhaps a larger disk. This can really help your website to run well.

Before you start thinking about going with a virtual Private server or a dedicated server, however, you should really look at some of the shared servers that are available on the Internet. These are an excellent way for you to get started in hosting your website and to begin to understand the subtleties that take place within the server itself.

Shared Hosting – More Than Meets the Eye

June 18th, 2009 Jack Spencer No comments

If you have been waiting to put your business or personal website on the Internet, there’s no doubt that you’re excited about the prospect of doing so. The one thing that all of us need whenever it is time to bring our website on to the Internet, however, is a hosting provider that will be able to show the site off to the world. Although you have hundreds of different choices as far as hosting is concerned, shared hosting is by far the most popular.

Shared hosting may be a little bit less expensive than other types of hosting services but that does not necessarily mean that you’re going to be without options. As a matter of fact, the price itself is one of the options than most people look for whenever it comes to shared hosting services. Shared hosting does not mean unreliable hosting and as a matter of fact, it is possible for you to have a decent web host for just a few dollars a month.

Another reason why shared hosting is so popular is because it is one of the easiest ways for you to get started working online. Many of the backend features on a shared account are going to be the same as some of the more advanced features that are available on other types of servers. If you’re able to run your domain on a shared server, you will be in a much better position to eventually move up to another server which has additional features.

There are several different things that you should look at whenever you first start out on the Internet with a shared hosting account. Aside from the price, you also have a number of different features that are offered by the shared hosting servers. One of the main features is the control panel that runs your website. Some of the most popular types of control panels are cPanel and Plesk but there are also others which are quite versatile. You are going to want to stick with the same type of control panel, even when you move up to other servers to make things easy for you.

If you are still unsure which hosting company you want to use, one of the best things that you can do for yourself is to look at one of the review websites that is available online. If there is one thing that people enjoy doing, it’s giving their opinions about these various services. It won’t take you very much reading in order to find out if people like the product or if they consider it to be worthless. Making a good decision is important at this stage of the game, so look at the reviews first.

Above all, you simply need to put your best foot forward and get started. Your website is going to do absolutely nothing for you whenever that is sitting on your computer and nobody is able to see it. Look at the various hosting accounts that are available and choose one, it is the only way that you are ever going to learn.
